Dodgeball: A Truely Underdog Silly Story

My wifey may chastise me for sharing this on my interweb before my vast international audience, but I can’t help it. I have to talk about it. I… I… started a dodgeball team. No, seriously. (Really)

I was in close proximity of a conversation between a couple friends. They were discussing the Fredericksburg Field House - an indoor athletic complex in, you guessed it, Fredericksburg. I wasn’t paying that close of attention until one of the fellows says something to the effect of:

They also have dodgeball…

I can’t complete the quote, because at that point many of my senses gave way to my mouth and I pounced on the conversation. It was all downhill from there. After a visit to their website and a subsequent phone call, I was armed with all of the info on the dodgeball season that would soon be starting. Yes, season. My mission was clear: I must play some dodgeball and I must talk my friends into doing the same so that I won’t be ridiculed, for playing dodgeball.

Much laughter ensued. As did the obligatory quotes from Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. While there was a fair amount of taunting (and rightly so), there was a lot of support for starting up a team. In fact, by early afternoon there were a total of eleven people who expressed interest in playing! And thus began the Easy Targets (couldn’t commit to the Purple Cobras).

Next Wednesday is our first game. It might not be pretty, but I guarantee it will be fun. I will be documenting the season under the ‘Dodgeball’ category.

I do think it’s appropriate that I share my wifey’s initial response to this development. Curtis, Brian and I were out to lunch at Bertucci’s when she called. We briefly discussed the usual stuff - when I would be home, dinner plans, etc. And then I dropped the news. It went something like this:

Jay: Hey, I started a dodgeball team today.

Allison: What?

Jay: I started a dodgeball team today.

Allison: Are you serious?

Jay: Yeah, it’s going to be awesome!

Allison: You’re a funny little human. (and then she continues to carry on with the conversation as if I hadn’t said anything about it)
