Quarantines and Kitchens
What a week. First, to wrap up the dangling post on the Jaguars second game - it was a loss (1-2). The good news is that this was the team that beat us by a margin of five goals last year.
Well, the flu hit the Benfield house and hit it hard. And not the general malaise kind of flu. The other kind. In fact, I quickly coined PukeFest ‘08 for the event. Last Thursday evening my daughter Alyssa (12) came down with it. On Saturday, Joshua (5). On Monday, Zachary (10). On Wednesday, Matthew (4). On Thursday, your’s truly. Allison felt quite sick on Thursday but she managed to avoid the porcelain worship.
It was bad, bad, all bad. All week we were dealing with the nasty. I ended up missing work on Thursday and Friday. And in a case of really bad timing, our kitchen remodel kicked off. So Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the contractor was here working while the Benfield sick were in quarantine.
Enough about that. We made it through, hallelujah. Our kitchen remodel is going very well. Due to some unplanned drywall patching, we’re running about a day behind schedule. The kitchen was fully disassembled and the new tile floor has been laid. We took this opportunity to paint the kitchen. Unfortunately, the paint we picked out didn’t look much like the sample. It was a very subtle off-white, which with white cabinets would be overkill. After two coats I kept waiting for it to dry darker, and well, it didn’t. So, Allison ran back to Lowe’s to get a darker color.
The cabinets will be installed on Monday and the counters will be ready on Wednesday. So, we should be all wrapped up Wednesday or Thursday! It’ll be nice to have a kitchen again. I’ll post before and after pics once everything is everything.
